Call for papers: Annual meeting, UBC, Vancouver 2019

Tue, 2018-10-16 19:20 -- manager

University of British Columbia

Vancouver, British Columbia

June 3-5, 2019

The 2019 meeting of the Canadian Law and Society Association will take place June 3-5, 2019 at the University of British Columbia on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) territory.  In conjunction with the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, the CLSA Program Committee calls for papers that address the theme of this year’s Congress: “Circles of Conversation.” At a time when truth and the rule of law are being challenged by people in positions of power intent on distorting facts to suit their agendas, it is more important than ever that law and society scholars contribute to the public debate by engaging in multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary conversations. To this purpose, the Program Committee invites law and society scholars to present research on the main theme as well as other issues within socio-legal scholarship including law and religion, crime and punishment, legal history, Indigenous-non-Indigenous legal relations or any other area that is of interest.

The Canadian Association of Law Teachers annual conference will be held June 5-7. The programs for both conferences on June 5th will be coordinated to encourage full participation.

The Program Committee encourages proposals for organized panels. Panels should be comprised of three or four related papers including a suggested chair. A panel proposal of no more than 300 words should be submitted, in addition to an abstract of no more than 300 words for each paper. A one-page curriculum vitae should also be submitted for each presenter. These documents should be submitted in a single PDF.

Proposals for individual papers are also welcome. Please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words and a one-page curriculum vitae. These documents should be submitted in a single PDF.

Please send all submissions to no later than 20 November 2018. Late submissions will not be considered, and the Program Committee will accept only one paper proposal per individual. The organizers reserve the right to request additional information and modify panels if necessary. Please note than all presenters must be members of the CLSA at the time of the conference. All presenters must register for Congress and the CLSA conference.
